On-page SEO is a must if you want search engines to be able to find your website. Below are three simple on-page SEO strategies to get you started.
-
Title Tags:
Title tags are the most important part of your web page. Located at the top of the browser, title tags let Google know exactly what the page is all about. The title tags should sum up the entire page in just a few words, so it is of the utmost importance that your keyword research is spot on (you can read more about keyword research here). Figuring out what keywords your target audience is searching for and using those as your title tags will help drive relevant traffic to your site.
-
Page Title:
The next part of your website Google or other search engines will evaluate is the title. The title should be similar to the title tags, but this is an opportunity to expand on some of the keywords you are targeting. Using closely related keywords can help your page rank for wider array of terms while still capturing that relevant traffic. A well written title can not only catch the eye of a human, but more importantly get the attention of Google’s algorithm.
-
Your First Paragraph of Text:
Making your content unique and interesting will make more people want to share it which in turn will get more eyes on your content. However, search engines don’t read every word of every story like a human may. That is why the first paragraph of text must convey exactly what you want the page to represent with the proper keywords. Sprinkling your targeted keywords into the first paragraph of text let’s both the search engine’s and your audience know exactly what your website is about and will help it rank better overall.
On-page SEO is a simple, effective, and important way to draw traffic to your website. As you’re building out your SEO strategy it is crucial to work on tracking the amount of relevant traffic certain keywords are drawing to your page. Track your traffic using Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools and do not be afraid to change up your title tags, page titles, and first paragraphs of pages that are not getting very much traffic, and play around with different keywords to test traffic conversions.
